Dumont
François Dumont is a distinguished French pianist whose international career gained momentum through his prize-winning performances at prestigious competitions such as the Chopin, Queen Elisabeth, Clara Haskil, and Monte Carlo Piano Masters. He recently made his debut at the renowned Musikverein in Vienna. This season, Dumont is set to perform Liszt’s Totentanz with the Orchestre National de France, conducted by François-Xavier Roth, and a Chopin program at the Théâtre des Champs-Elysées in Paris. He was selected by Leonard Slatkin to record Ravel's Piano Concertos with the Orchestre National de Lyon, a recording that received critical acclaim upon its release by Naxos.
Dumont has performed with leading orchestras worldwide, including the Mariinsky Theatre Orchestra, Warsaw National Philharmonic, Cleveland, and Tokyo Symphony Orchestras. His solo performances have taken him to various Chopin festivals and esteemed venues like the Kennedy Center in Washington. He frequently tours in China, Japan, and South Korea.
His extensive discography features the complete Mozart Sonatas, complete Ravel Piano Music, Beethoven and Schubert Trios, three Chopin albums, and two Bach programs. He has also recorded Fauré’s Nocturnes on period piano and is working on the complete Mozart Concertos with the Orchestre National de Bretagne, directing from the keyboard.
Chamber music plays a significant role in Dumont's career. He collaborates with artists such as Sayaka Shoji, Marc Coppey, and Augustin Dumay, and explores Lieder with his wife, soprano Helen Kearns. Dumont is also engaged in contemporary music, collaborating with composers like Bacri, Dusapin, and Murail.
Born in Lyon, Dumont studied under Pascale Imbert, Chrystel Saussac, and Hervé Billaut, and entered the Paris Conservatoire at fourteen. He further honed his skills at the International Piano Academy Lake Como and the Lieven Piano Foundation, studying with renowned pianists like Dmitri Bashkirov and Murray Perahia. Passionate about teaching, he is a professor at the Haute-Ecole de Musique de Genève / Neuchâtel and conducts masterclasses across Europe and Japan.
