Charles Mitchell
Charles Mitchell, born Uless Charles Mitchell on April 1, 1904, was an American songwriter and steel guitarist, renowned for his collaboration with Jimmie Davis. He is best known for co-writing the iconic song "You Are My Sunshine," which was published in 1939. Throughout his career, Mitchell worked with Jimmie Davis and his orchestra, contributing to several notable recordings such as "Sweethearts or Strangers" and "I'm Drifting Back to Dreamland." Additionally, he led his own musical groups, including Charles Mitchell and His Orchestra and Charles Mitchell and His Texans. Beyond his musical contributions, Mitchell served as the registrar of voters in Caddo Parish, Louisiana. He passed away on December 27, 1972, at the age of 67.
