Bread
Bread was an American soft rock band originating from Los Angeles, California, active primarily from 1968 to 1973, with reunions in 1976-1978 and 1996-1997. The band was fronted by David Gates, a seasoned songwriter and musician from Tulsa, Oklahoma, who played multiple instruments and provided lead vocals. Other key members included Jimmy Griffin, Robb Royer, Mike Botts, and later Larry Knechtel. Bread was known for its soft rock ballads and had 13 songs chart on the Billboard Hot 100 between 1970 and 1977, including the No. 1 hit "Make It with You." Their music helped define the California soft-rock sound of the early 1970s. Despite internal tensions over songwriting contributions, Bread remains one of the most popular soft-rock groups of their era, with hits like "Baby, I'm-a Want You," "If," and "Everything I Own" enduring in popular culture.
