Carlos Di Sarli
Carlos Di Sarli, born Cayetano di Sarli on January 7, 1903, in Bahía Blanca, Argentina, was an influential Argentine tango musician, orchestra leader, composer, and pianist. Known as "El Señor del Tango," Di Sarli was the eighth child of Italian immigrant Miguel Di Sarli and Serafina Russomano, the daughter of tenor singer Tito Russomano. His musical journey began in his family, with an older brother who was a music teacher and another who became a famous baritone. Di Sarli received classical music training at the Williams music conservatory in Bahía Blanca.

At the age of 13, after an accident in his father's store that resulted in the loss of an eye, Di Sarli joined a company of traveling musicians, playing popular music including tangos. By 1919, he had formed his first orchestra in Bahía Blanca, and in 1923, he moved to Buenos Aires with his brother Roque. There, he joined various musical groups, including the orchestra of Anselmo Aieta and the trio of Alejandro Scarpino.

In 1927, Di Sarli met Osvaldo Fresedo, who became a significant influence on his music. Di Sarli's style was unique, combining rhythmic tango cadence with harmonic subtleties. He formed his own sextet in 1928 and began recording with RCA Victor, achieving success with pieces like "T.B.C" and "La guitarrita." His orchestra was known for its melodic, danceable style, with a focus on rhythm and elegance, and he conducted it from the piano.

Di Sarli's career spanned the golden age of tango, and he was instrumental in popularizing the genre on radio and in cabarets. His music, characterized by its melodic richness and rhythmic precision, left a lasting legacy in the world of tango. Carlos Di Sarli passed away on January 12, 1960, in Olivos, Buenos Aires, leaving behind a rich discography and a distinctive musical style that continues to influence tango music today.
