Harry DaCosta
Harry DeCosta was an American composer, songwriter, and pianist born on June 25, 1885, in New York City. He passed away on June 23, 1964, in Hollywood, California. A pianist from a young age, DeCosta became a professional pianist for music publishing houses in New York and was also a radio scriptwriter. He was a piano accompanist in vaudeville circuits for many seasons and joined the American Society of Composers, Authors, and Publishers (ASCAP) in 1925. DeCosta was known for his long association with the duo Jones and Hare. Among his notable compositions are "Tiger Rag," "Little Grey Mother," "Ragamuffin Romeo," "That Soothing Serenade," "Slappin’ the Bass," "Mary Dear," "Love Me a Little Little," "My Mammy Knows," "Love Made a Gypsy Out of Me," "I Found a Round-about Way to Heaven," and "The Prune Song." His work, particularly "Tiger Rag," has been widely recorded and performed by various artists over the years.
