Seymour Simons
Seymour Simons was an influential American jazz musician, born on January 14, 1896, in Detroit, Michigan. Initially trained as an engineer, Simons shifted his career path during World War I, moving from engineering to aeronautical research. Following his military service, he returned to Detroit and established himself as a pianist and songwriter, crafting material for notable stage stars such as Nora Bayes and Elsie Janis. Among his early works was the song "Just Like a Gypsy," co-written with Bayes in 1919.

Simons' collaborations extended to working with Richard A. Whiting and Haven Gillespie, resulting in popular songs like “Breezin’ Along With the Breeze.” His partnership with Gus Kahn produced songs such as “Just Can’t Be Bothered with Me” and “Sweetheart of My Student Days.” In the late 1920s and early 1930s, Simons was active in radio production and led an orchestra on the airwaves. His most enduring success came in 1931 with the song “All of Me,” co-written with Gerald Marks, which has remained a jazz standard over the decades.

Seymour Simons passed away on February 12, 1949, in his hometown of Detroit, leaving behind a legacy as a prolific composer and influential figure in American jazz music.
