Richard Garrette
Richard Garrette, also known as Richard "Duke" Garrette, was an American jazz trumpet player, vocalist, and songwriter. He gained recognition in 1948 when he was voted the 5th best trumpeter in the Down Beat poll. Garrette played trumpet for Lionel Hampton for a decade and was also associated with The Kentucky State Collegians in the early 1940s. In addition to his trumpet performances, he sang vocals with Earl Hines & His Orchestra. Starting in 1951, he led his own combo at the Baby Grand in Harlem.
