Duke Garrette
Duke Garrette, whose real name was Richard "Duke" Garrett, was an American jazz trumpet player, vocalist, and songwriter. He gained recognition in the jazz world, being voted the 5th best trumpeter in the 1948 Down Beat poll. Duke Garrette played trumpet for Lionel Hampton for a decade, showcasing his talent and contributing to the vibrant jazz scene of the time. In the early 1940s, he played with The Kentucky State Collegians and also lent his vocal talents to Earl Hines & His Orchestra. Starting in 1951, he led his own combo at the Baby Grand in Harlem, further establishing his presence in the jazz community.
