Guy Wood
Guy B. Wood was born on July 24, 1911, in Manchester, England. He began his musical career playing saxophone in dance bands in England before moving to the United States in the early 1930s. In the U.S., Wood worked for Paramount Pictures and Columbia Pictures and served as a bandleader at New York's Arcadia Ballroom from 1939 to 1942. He was a prolific songwriter, known for composing or co-writing several hit tunes, including "Till Then," "My One and Only Love," and "Shoo-Fly Pie and Apple Pan Dowdy." His song "Till Then" charted multiple times, and "My One and Only Love" became a jazz standard. Wood also wrote music for Radio City Music Hall and the children's program Captain Kangaroo. He was married to Jane Wood, with whom he had three children, and he passed away on February 23, 2001, in East Hampton, New York.
