Elmer Albrecht was an American composer born on June 21, 1901, in Chicago, where he also passed away on February 28, 1959. He is best known for composing "Elmer's Tune," a piece he originally created in the early 1920s while working as an embalmer at a funeral parlor in Chicago. Albrecht played the tune in various honky-tonks and small nightclubs around Chicago for years. Despite initial rejections from musicians such as Ted Weems, Albrecht's persistence led to Dick Jurgens arranging the tune for his orchestra in 1941, which became a hit. The song gained further popularity when Glenn Miller recorded a vocal version with lyrics by Sammy Gallop, reaching number one on the Billboard charts.
