Roger Edens
Roger Edens (November 9, 1905 – July 13, 1970) was a prominent Hollywood composer, arranger, and associate producer, recognized as a key creative force in the musical film production unit led by Arthur Freed at Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer (MGM) during Hollywood's golden era. Born in Hillsboro, Texas, Edens began his career as a piano accompanist for ballroom dancers before transitioning to Broadway as a musical conductor. His move to Hollywood in 1932 marked the beginning of a significant career in film music, initially working with Ethel Merman at Paramount.

In 1935, Edens joined MGM as a musical supervisor and composer, where he notably contributed to the music of Judy Garland, becoming her original trainer and lifelong friend. His collaboration with Garland produced memorable works, including "Dear Mr. Gable - You Made Me Love You" and "It's a Great Day for the Irish." Edens played a crucial role in many successful MGM musicals, such as Meet Me in St. Louis (1944), Easter Parade (1948), and Singin' in the Rain (1952), and he received Academy Awards for his work on Easter Parade, On the Town (1949), and Annie Get Your Gun (1950).

After leaving MGM in the mid-1950s, Edens continued to influence the musical film genre, working on projects like Funny Face (1957). He was also known for hosting joint birthday parties with Kay Thompson, featuring surprise performances by stars like Judy Garland and Marilyn Monroe. Roger Edens passed away in Hollywood, California, and was laid to rest in Westwood Memorial Park, Los Angeles.
