Mabel Wayne
Mabel Wayne, born Mabel Wimpfheimer on July 16, 1890, in Brooklyn, New York, was a pioneering American musician, composer, and screenwriter. She was one of the first female composers to achieve significant success with hit songs. Wayne studied piano in Switzerland and at the New York School of Music. Her career, spanning from the 1920s to 1978, included performing as a concert pianist, singer, and vaudeville dancer.

Wayne's notable compositions include "In a Little Spanish Town" (1926), "Ramona" (1928), and "It Happened in Monterey" (1930). Her work was often characterized by Spanish-American themes, and many of her songs were widely covered by other musicians. She collaborated with lyricists such as L. Wolfe Gilbert, Sam M. Lewis, and Joe Young, and contributed to film scores, including "King of Jazz" and British films like "Dance Band" (1935).

In 1948, she married Nick Campbell, a music publisher. Mabel Wayne was inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 1972. She passed away on June 19, 1978, in Glen Cove, New York, at the age of 87.
