Sidney D. Mitchell
Sidney D. Mitchell was born on June 15, 1888, in Baltimore, Maryland, and passed away on February 25, 1942, in Los Angeles, California. He was a prominent lyricist and composer in the Hollywood film industry, particularly known for his collaborations with Lew Pollack on movie scores at Twentieth Century Fox during the 1930s and 1940s. Mitchell, along with Louis Alter, received an Oscar nomination in 1937 for the song "A Melody from the Sky" featured in the 1936 film "The Trail of the Lonesome Pine." He contributed numerous songs to films and served as a screenwriter for three movies, including "Umpa" in 1933. Sidney D. Mitchell was married to Dorothy Veronica Baedor and had a child named Joan Ilene. His legacy continues as his work is still featured in modern productions.
