Joe Candullo
Joe Candullo, born Giuseppe Antonio Candullo on November 3, 1901, in New York City, was a prominent American musician known for his contributions to jazz and dance music. The son of Sebastian Candullo, Joe initially followed in his father's footsteps as a barber but harbored ambitions for a musical career. In 1921, he traveled to England with Billy Madden’s Crescent City Orchestra, performing at prestigious venues like the Rector’s Club in London and Paris.

By late 1925, Candullo's band was a fixture at the Everglades Restaurant in New York's bustling entertainment district. His first recording session as a bandleader occurred in February 1926 for the Harmony label, a part of the 'dime store' record industry known for its economical production methods. Despite the challenges of the era's recording technology, Candullo's work is noted for its jazz significance, especially his sessions with the Edison Phonograph Company, despite Thomas Edison's aversion to jazz.

Candullo's career spanned from 1926 to 1951, during which he took on roles as a leader, violinist, vocalist, songwriter, and composer. His recordings, such as "Off to Buffalo" and "The Christmas Symphony," reflect his versatility and influence in the jazz and dance band scenes.
