Irving Kahal
Irving Kahal was an influential American lyricist born on March 5, 1903, in Houtzdale, Pennsylvania. He gained prominence in the 1920s and 1930s, primarily through his collaboration with composer Sammy Fain, beginning in 1926. Their partnership, lasting until Kahal's death in 1942, produced numerous popular songs. Among their notable works is "You Brought a New Kind of Love to Me," featured in the 1930 film The Big Pond and famously recorded by Maurice Chevalier and later by Frank Sinatra. Other significant songs include "Let a Smile Be Your Umbrella" (1928) and "I'll Be Seeing You" (1938), which became a poignant hit during World War II. Kahal's contributions to American music were recognized posthumously with his induction into the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 1970. He passed away on February 7, 1942, in New York City due to uremic poisoning.
