Bob Rothberg
Bob Rothberg was a notable American songwriter and lyricist born on October 28, 1901, in New York City. He was a prominent figure in the Tin Pan Alley music scene and became a member of ASCAP in 1936. Rothberg was educated in New York public schools, DeWitt Clinton High School, and later pursued accountancy and law at New York Law School, earning a Bachelor of Laws in 1928. He also studied music and violin with private instructors.
Rothberg's career was marked by his contributions to the music of animated cartoons, particularly for Popeye the Sailor, Betty Boop, and Color Classics. Some of his notable works include "Why Am I So Beautiful," "Be Human," and "Christmas Comes But Once a Year." His song "Curiosity Killed a Cat" was featured in the 1995 film "Dangerous Minds," and "Congratulate Me" was included in the 1974 film "The Front Page."
Bob Rothberg passed away on February 1, 1938, in New York City and is interred at United Hebrew Cemetery on Staten Island. Despite his relatively short life, Rothberg left a lasting impact on the music of early American animation and popular music of his time.
