Ricardo Herz
Ricardo Herz, born in 1978, is a distinguished violinist from São Paulo, Brazil. He is a classically trained musician who expanded his expertise by studying jazz at the Berklee College of Music in Boston. Herz further honed his skills in France under the tutelage of Didier Lockwood and became known for conducting workshops on Brazilian music. In 2004, he gained recognition in Brazil by winning the popular jury at the Visa Prize for Brazilian Music.
Herz's debut solo album, "Violino Popular Brasileiro" (Brazilian Popular Violin), marked the beginning of his recording career. He has collaborated with notable artists such as Yamandu Costa, Hamilton de Holanda, Nelson Ayres, Toninho Ferragutti, and Dominguinhos. From 2002 to 2010, Herz lived in Paris, where he performed with Orquestra do Fubá, a forró band, and Tekere, a jazz/world-music sextet.
Upon returning to Brazil in 2010, Herz continued to collaborate with prominent Brazilian musicians and performed as a soloist with various orchestras, including Orquestra Jazz Sinfônica and Orquestra Sinfônica de João Pessoa. His Ricardo Herz Trio has released two albums, "Aqui é o meu lá" and "Torcendo a Terra," which explore Brazilian rhythms with a jazz influence.
Herz has also recorded duo albums with artists like Antonio Loureiro, Samuca do Acordeon, Nelson Ayres, and Yamandu Costa. Additionally, he released an album featuring traditional music for children and performed with the Cantilena Ensemble. Beyond performing, Herz is dedicated to teaching and promoting Brazilian violin music.
