Cedrick Luces
Cedrick Luces, known as Sir Cedrick, is a renowned steel drum musician and composer, celebrated as South Florida's most sought-after steel drum player and Miami's 1991 Calypso King. Born in Laventille, Trinidad, the birthplace of the steel drum, Cedrick's musical journey began as a teenager touring Venezuela with the Belmont Steel Band. In his twenties, he moved to the United States, where he collaborated with prominent jazz and Caribbean musicians, including Othello Molineaux, Jaco Pastorius, and Joe Donato.
Cedrick co-founded the New Rhythm Band with Jamaican guitar legend Ernest Ranglin in 1986, blending calypso, jazz, and reggae into his unique sound. His original hit "If You Drink My Wine" won him the Calypso King title in 1991. Throughout the 1990s, he produced several albums, such as "Island Riddim" and "Pan Jammin," followed by "Steel Drum Concert Volumes 1 & 2" in the early 2000s.
Sir Cedrick has performed extensively across the United States, with notable long-term engagements in Florida and New Jersey. Based in Melbourne, Florida, he continues to bring the spirit of the Caribbean to audiences with his masterful steel drum performances and soulful vocals.
