Dido
Dido, born Florian Cloud de Bounevialle Armstrong on December 25, 1971, in Kensington, London, is an acclaimed English singer and songwriter known mononymously as Dido. Her music career began in 1995, and she gained international fame with her debut album "No Angel" in 1999, featuring hit singles like "Here with Me" and "Thank You." This album sold over 21 million copies worldwide and earned her multiple awards, including two Brit Awards and an MTV Europe Music Award for Best New Act. The first verse of "Thank You" was notably sampled in "Stan," a collaboration with rapper Eminem.
Dido's second album, "Life for Rent" (2003), continued her success with singles such as "White Flag." She participated in the Band Aid 20 charity single "Do They Know It's Christmas?" in 2004. Her first two albums are among the best-selling in UK history. Although her third album, "Safe Trip Home" (2008), received critical acclaim, it did not match the commercial success of her earlier works. In 2011, her duet with A. R. Rahman, "If I Rise," was nominated for an Academy Award.
After a hiatus, Dido returned with "Girl Who Got Away" in 2013 and later released "Still on My Mind" in 2019, followed by a tour. She received the Ivor Novello Award for Outstanding Song Collection in 2019. Despite her success, Dido has maintained a low profile, focusing on family life with her husband, Rohan Gavin, and their son, Stanley. As of 2025, she remains a beloved figure in music, with plans to release a special anniversary edition of "No Angel."
