Barry Eastmond
Barry James Eastmond, born on January 11, 1959, in Brooklyn, New York, is a distinguished American musician, composer, songwriter, and record producer. He began his musical journey as a pianist at the tender age of four and received classical music training at the Juilliard School of Music's preparatory school between the ages of seven and ten. During his high school years, Eastmond played in local top 40 and wedding bands in Brooklyn, which laid the foundation for his future career.
Eastmond's professional breakthrough came in 1985 when he wrote and produced Freddie Jackson's hit "You Are My Lady," which topped the US Billboard Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart. This success led to further collaborations with renowned artists such as Billy Ocean, Britney Spears, Aretha Franklin, Whitney Houston, and many more. His work spans over sixty gold, platinum, and multi-platinum albums, collectively selling over 80 million copies.
In addition to his production and songwriting accomplishments, Eastmond is an adjunct professor at New York University Steinhardt Performing Arts Department, where he teaches songwriting and participates in the NYU Summer Songwriting Workshop. He is married to songwriter Maria Eastmond, and they have two children, Melodie and Barry Jr. Eastmond's contributions to music have earned him numerous ASCAP Pop and R&B awards, and he has served on the Board of NARAS. His recent projects include albums for Billy Ocean and contributions to Steve Perry's and Diana Ross's albums.
