René Ornelas
René Víctor Ornelas, born on August 26, 1936, in Laredo, Texas, is a talented musician of Mexican descent. He began his musical journey in the early 1950s, singing and playing trumpet in his father's band, the Mike Ornelas Orchestra. Ornelas gained prominence as part of the Latin pop duo René y René, alongside René Herrera. The duo achieved significant success in the 1960s with hit singles like "Angelito" and "Lo Mucho Que Te Quiero," the latter reaching #2 on the U.S. Adult Contemporary chart and #14 on the Billboard Hot 100. René y René were pioneers among Chicano artists, appearing on American Bandstand in 1964. Their contributions to music were recognized with inductions into the Tejano Music Hall of Fame in 1990 and the Tejano ROOTS Hall of Fame in 2001. As of 2010, René Ornelas continued to perform under the name "René René."
