Jerome Bresler
Jerome (Jerry) Bresler (May 29, 1914 – March 17, 2000) was an American conductor, songwriter, and musician born in Chicago, Illinois. Displaying prodigious musical talent early on, he played piano at the age of two and conducted the NYU orchestra by the age of 14. Bresler was educated at Theodore Roosevelt High School in Chicago, where he wrote the school song "Go Rough Riders Go" in 1931. He furthered his studies at Chicago Musical College and DePaul University, focusing on music theory, composition, conducting, and orchestration under the tutelage of Dr. Samuel Lieberson. He also studied the Schillinger method with Professor Rudolf Schramm at NYU.
In 1950, Bresler joined ASCAP and began producing shows for nightclub acts, working with artists such as Robert Goulet, Sophie Tucker, and Arlene Dahl. He formed a partnership in 1956 with Lyn Duddy to write and produce TV and nightclub acts, contributing to shows like the Merv Griffin Show, Jackie Gleason Show, and the Honeymooners. Bresler also collaborated with Larry Wynn on songwriting.
One of his notable compositions is "Five Guys Named Moe." His recordings include work with artists such as Lionel Hampton and Billie Holiday. Bresler had a twin sister named Geraldine and passed away in Delray Beach, Florida.
