Paul Moen
Paul Moen was a US-American saxophonist and composer, born in 1953 and passed away on October 10, 2004. Known for his work as a tenor saxophone player and jazz arranger, Moen had a significant career working with jazz legends such as drummer Buddy Rich and vibraphonist Lionel Hampton. He was a key figure in Hampton's band as a soloist and arranger during the late 1970s and early '80s and toured extensively with Rich's big band.

Moen was a native of Bremerton, Washington, where he attended West High School and later Olympic College, playing in their jazz bands. His talent earned him a Quincy Jones scholarship to study at Berklee College of Music in Boston, where he completed his degree. Throughout his career, Moen collaborated with notable jazz figures including Dizzy Gillespie, Cab Calloway, and Ray Mantilla, for whom he composed the piece "Mantilla's Jazz." His composition "Latin Silk" was featured on Buddy Rich's 1977 LP "Lionel Hampton Presents Buddy Rich."

As the popularity of big band jazz waned in the 1990s, Moen returned to his hometown of Bremerton, where he helped care for his parents and continued to perform locally. He organized a concert series called "Sax in the City" at the Admiral Theatre in 2002. Despite facing personal challenges, Moen remained a respected figure in the jazz community until his untimely death at the age of 51.
