Donnie Fritts
Donnie Fritts, born Donald Ray Fritts on November 8, 1942, in Florence, Alabama, was an influential American session musician and songwriter. He began his musical journey at the age of 15, playing drums in local bands before transitioning to a session keyboard player. Fritts was a key figure in the Muscle Shoals music scene, collaborating with notable figures such as Rick Hall, Billy Sherrill, and Dan Penn.

In 1965, Fritts signed with a Nashville publishing company, leading to his songs being recorded by artists like Charlie Rich and Jerry Lee Lewis. A significant chapter in his career began when he met Kris Kristofferson, serving as his keyboardist for over two decades and appearing in several films, including "Pat Garrett & Billy the Kid" and "A Star Is Born."

As a recording artist, Fritts released several albums, including "Prone to Lean" (1974) and "Everybody's Got a Song" (1998), featuring collaborations with artists like Willie Nelson and John Prine. His songwriting credits include hits like "We Had It All" and "Breakfast in Bed."

Fritts was inducted into the Alabama Music Hall of Fame in 2008 and passed away on August 27, 2019, in Birmingham, Alabama, due to complications from heart surgery. His legacy continues to influence the genres of rhythm and blues, rock, and country music.
