Jackie Moore
Jackie Moore was an influential American R&B singer born in 1946 in Jacksonville, Florida. She gained prominence in the 1970s with her distinctive voice, which was noted for being both sweet and rough. Moore's career was marked by several chart successes, most notably her 1970 hit "Precious, Precious," which achieved gold status and reached No. 30 on the US Billboard Hot 100. Her 1979 disco single "This Time Baby" topped the US Hot Dance Music/Club Play chart and was later sampled in the 2005 hit "Love on My Mind" by the Freemasons featuring Amanda Wilson.
Throughout her career, Moore worked with several record labels, including Shout, Wand, Atlantic, RCA, and Columbia Records. Her early work included the single "Who Told You" for Wand Records and her debut "Dear John" on Shout Records in 1969. Her 1973 album "Sweet Charlie Babe" received attention for its blend of soulful and funky sounds, although it was noted that she lacked a distinctive persona.
Moore continued to release music into the late 1970s and early 1980s, with albums such as "Make Me Feel Like a Woman" (1975) and "I'm on My Way" (1979). Despite a moderate pop chart presence, her influence persisted, and her music remains celebrated, with compilations like "Precious, Precious: The Best of Jackie Moore" (1994) and "The Complete Atlantic Recordings" (2015) keeping her legacy alive. Jackie Moore passed away on November 8, 2019, at the age of 73.
