Adolf Lohmann
Adolf Lohmann (10 January 1907 – 19 October 1983) was a prominent German music educator and composer of sacred music, known for his significant contributions to the Catholic hymnal Gotteslob. Born in Düsseldorf, Lohmann began his career as a music teacher and advisor for school music. In 1937, he was transferred to Goch by the Nazi Kultusbehörde, but returned to Düsseldorf in 1949.

Lohmann was actively involved in choral music, conducting various adult and youth choirs. He was instrumental in organizing music education and training for choral conductors, frequently hosting events at Haus Altenberg. During the Nazi regime, he composed melodies for hymns written by Georg Thurmair, which emphasized Christian themes in opposition to the prevailing ideology.

As a publisher and editor for Christophorus-Verlag, Lohmann produced numerous songbooks and choir books. His prolific output includes 150 songs, 30 canons, and approximately 450 choral and orchestral settings. His work left a lasting legacy, with several of his hymn melodies featured in Gotteslob, such as "O Herr, aus tiefer Klage" and "Singt dem Herrn ein neues Lied." In recognition of his contributions, a street in Goch was named after him in 1999.
