Frederick Knight
Frederick Knight, born on August 15, 1944, in Birmingham, Alabama, is an American R&B singer, songwriter, and record producer. Knight began his music career recording with Mercury and Capitol in New York before signing with Stax Records in 1972. He achieved his only UK hit with the single "I've Been Lonely for So Long" in 1972, which charted for 10 weeks and reached number 22. Despite being labeled a one-hit wonder due to limited chart success, Knight appeared in the 1973 documentary film Wattstax.
Following the closure of Stax Records, Knight founded Juana Records, where he wrote and produced for The Controllers. He also gained a UK Number 1 chart credit with Anita Ward's "Ring My Bell" in 1979. Knight's song "Be for Real" was covered by Leonard Cohen in 1992 and by The Afghan Whigs for the 1996 film Beautiful Girls.
His discography includes studio albums such as "I've Been Lonely for So Long" (1973), "Knight Kap" (1977), "Let the Sunshine In" (1978), and "Knight Time" (1981), along with a compilation album "The Timeless Soul Collection" (1987). Knight's musical contributions have left a lasting impact on the R&B genre.
