Arthur Resnick
Arthur "Art" Resnick, born Arthur Irwin Resnick on March 20, 1941, in Minneapolis, Minnesota, was a celebrated jazz pianist, composer, and arranger whose career spanned several decades until his passing on June 26, 2023, in Saint Paul, Minnesota. Resnick's musical journey began with classical piano studies under Sanford Margolis, but his passion soon shifted to jazz, leading him to perform in local clubs in the Twin Cities.

In 1968, Resnick moved to San Francisco, where he joined the psychedelic rock band Salvation, sharing stages with iconic acts like the Doors and Janis Joplin. His career then pivoted back to jazz, taking him to major music hubs such as New York, Los Angeles, and Paris. Resnick collaborated with numerous jazz luminaries, including Freddie Hubbard, Nat Adderley, and Benny Golson, among others.

Resnick's discography includes three albums as a leader, with "Jungleopolis" receiving critical acclaim. He also contributed to over 13 other recordings. He was instrumental in forming the jazz quartet "Expedition" with Bob Rockwell, Rufus Reid, and Victor Lewis, showcasing his prowess as both a performer and composer.

Throughout his career, Resnick was dedicated to teaching and mentoring, influencing many young musicians. He lived and worked in various locations, including San Diego, Portland, and Alaska, always returning to the Twin Cities to perform and compose.

Arthur Resnick's legacy is marked by his original harmonic style and his contributions to jazz as a musician, composer, and educator. He is survived by his wife, Gail, brother Randy, daughter Monaie, granddaughter Alana, nephew Shane, and cousin Marcey.
