Reinhold Glière
Reinhold Glière was born Reinhold Ernest Glier in 1874 in Kiev, to a German woodwind instrument maker. He later changed his surname to Glière to make it easier for Russians to pronounce. Glière was a prominent composer who rose quickly through the Moscow Conservatory, where he composed in a traditional style that was well-received by the Soviet authorities when they came to power. His compositions spanned all musical genres, and he was awarded numerous prizes for his work. Some of his notable compositions include the "Russian Sailors Dance," "Harp Concerto in E-flat major, Op. 74," and "Horn Concerto in B-flat major, Op. 91." Glière passed away in 1956.
