Boris Prozorovsky
Boris Alekseyevich Prozorovsky (30 June 1891 – 1937) was a Russian composer and songwriter born in Saint Petersburg, Imperial Russia. He was renowned for his contributions to the genre of Russian romance, a style of music characterized by its emotive and lyrical qualities. Among his most famous works are the songs "Rings," "Caravan," and "Ships," which were prominently performed by his protégé and former partner, Tamara Tsereteli. Tsereteli recorded some of these songs in 1927, a year marking the zenith of Prozorovsky's career.

However, the late 1920s brought challenges for Prozorovsky when the All-Russian Musicians Union's Conference labeled the Russian romance genre as 'counter-revolutionary' in 1929. This political climate led to his arrest in 1930, resulting in a three-year sentence in the Gulag. After his release, Prozorovsky resumed his musical activities, collaborating with pianist Daniil Olenin. Tragically, during the Great Purge in 1937, he was arrested again and executed, marking the end of his life and career.
