Steve Goodman
Steve Goodman was an influential American folk and country singer-songwriter born on July 25, 1948, in Chicago, Illinois. He is best known for writing "City of New Orleans," a song that became a hit for artists like Arlo Guthrie and Willie Nelson. Goodman also co-wrote "You Never Even Called Me by My Name," famously performed by David Allan Coe. A dedicated Chicago Cubs fan, he penned the anthem "Go Cubs Go." Despite being diagnosed with leukemia at age 20, Goodman pursued a successful music career, releasing albums such as "Steve Goodman" (1972) and "Somebody Else's Troubles" (1973). His witty and perceptive songwriting earned him admiration from peers like Bob Dylan and John Prine.
