Skip James
Nehemiah Curtis "Skip" James (June 9, 1902 – October 3, 1969) was an influential American Delta blues singer, guitarist, pianist, and songwriter, known for his haunting falsetto vocals and distinctive guitar playing. Born near Bentonia, Mississippi, James learned music from local musicians and developed a unique style characterized by a dark, minor-key sound and intricate fingerpicking in open D-minor tuning. His early recordings for Paramount Records in 1931 did not achieve commercial success, leading him to leave the music scene for several decades.

James was rediscovered in 1964 during the blues revival, performing at the Newport Folk Festival and recording several albums. His music, including songs like "I'm So Glad" and "Devil Got My Woman," has influenced countless artists, and his song "I'm So Glad" was famously covered by the rock band Cream. Despite his reclusive nature and complex personality, James' work remains a seminal influence in the blues genre, celebrated for its emotional depth and technical mastery.
