Lefty Frizzell
William Orville "Lefty" Frizzell, born on March 31, 1928, in Corsicana, Texas, was an influential American country and honky-tonk singer-songwriter. Known for his distinctive vocal style, Frizzell was a major influence on country music legends such as George Jones, Merle Haggard, Roy Orbison, and Willie Nelson. He began his career at a young age, performing professionally before his teens and gaining early exposure on local radio. Despite personal struggles, including a stint in jail for statutory rape and battles with alcoholism, Frizzell achieved significant success in his career. He was the first artist to have four songs in the top ten of the Country Music Billboard charts simultaneously. Some of his notable hits include "If You’ve Got the Money I’ve Got the Time" and "Always Late (With Your Kisses)." His career, however, was marred by poor management and personal issues, leading to a decline before his untimely death from a stroke on July 19, 1975, at the age of 47. Posthumously, Frizzell's contributions to music were recognized with his induction into the Country Music Hall of Fame in 1982 and the Songwriters Hall of Fame. His legacy endures, having left a lasting impact on the genre and future generations of country musicians.
