The Marketts
The Marketts were an American instrumental pop group formed in January 1961 in Hollywood, California, by Michael Z. Gordon. Initially spelled "Mar-Kets," the group became known for their surf rock sound, although their music explored various styles. Their first major hit, "Surfer's Stomp," was released under Union Records and became an instant national success. Following this, they signed with Liberty Records, where they released another surfing hit, "Balboa Blue."

The Marketts gained further recognition with their 1963 hit "Out of Limits," originally titled "Outer Limits" after the TV series. Due to a lawsuit from Rod Serling for the unauthorized use of a motif from "The Twilight Zone," the title was changed. The single reached No. 3 on the Billboard Hot 100 and sold over one million copies, earning a gold disc. The song has since been featured in various films and TV shows, including "Pulp Fiction" and "Saturday Night Live."

Throughout the 1960s, the Marketts released several albums under Warner Bros. Records, including "The Batman Theme," which reached No. 82 on the U.S. charts. Although their subsequent singles did not match the success of "Out of Limits," the group remained active and in demand for live performances, including notable appearances at the Hollywood Bowl and Madison Square Garden. The Marketts continued to release music under their name until 1977, with their last charting hit in 1966.
