Hugo Montenegro
Hugo Mario Montenegro (September 2, 1925 – February 6, 1981) was an American orchestra leader and composer renowned for his work on film soundtracks. Born in New York City, Montenegro served in the U.S. Navy, where he worked as an arranger for the Newport Naval Base band. After his military service, he studied composition at Manhattan College and led his own band for school events.

In the 1950s, Montenegro began his career in music by directing, conducting, and arranging for the Glen-Spice Orchestra. He was instrumental in the early recordings of Dion DiMucci. Later, he joined Time Records as a musical director and subsequently moved to Los Angeles in the early 1960s to work with RCA Victor. There, he produced several albums and soundtracks, including music for television series and films.

Montenegro is best known for his interpretations of Spaghetti Western music, particularly his cover of Ennio Morricone's theme from "The Good, the Bad and the Ugly." He also composed the score for the 1969 Western "Charro!" starring Elvis Presley and wrote the theme for the television series "I Dream of Jeannie."

Throughout his career, Montenegro scored numerous films, including "Hurry Sundown" (1967), "Lady in Cement" (1968), and "The Undefeated" (1969). His final film scores were for "Too Hot to Handle" and "The Farmer" in 1977. Montenegro passed away in Palm Springs, California, at the age of 55.
