Lee Diamond
Lee Diamond, born Wilbert Lee Smith Sr. in New Orleans, was an influential American rhythm & blues singer, songwriter, and tenor saxophonist. He recorded for notable labels such as Vee Jay Records, Minit, and Lola Records. Diamond was frequently credited alongside George Davis, particularly for the hit song "Tell It Like It Is." His career began as a drummer in 1951, and by 1954, he was playing tenor saxophone with the touring band of Shirley & Lee. He later joined Little Richard's band, The Upsetters, contributing to classic tracks like "Keep A Knockin'" and "Oh My Soul."

After Little Richard's abrupt departure from the music scene in 1957, Diamond continued to perform with The Upsetters, even fronting the band on some recordings. In the 1960s, he returned to New Orleans and collaborated with Allen Toussaint at Minit Records, releasing two singles. He also worked with George Davis, co-writing songs for Davis's production company, Par-Lo. One of their collaborations, "Tell It Like It Is," became a major hit for Aaron Neville.

Throughout his career, Diamond was known for his versatility, switching between saxophone and piano as needed. He also contributed compositions recorded by artists like Robert Parker. Lee Diamond passed away in 1981, leaving behind a legacy in the rhythm & blues and rock 'n' roll genres.
