Ben Ellison
Ben Ellison (1902-1984) was an American composer and songwriter born on November 7, 1902, in New Orleans, Louisiana. He was known for his work in film and music, contributing to the soundtracks and music departments of notable films such as "I'm No Angel" (1933), "The Duke Is Tops" (1938), and "Dark Manhattan" (1937). His compositions include songs like "I'm No Angel," co-written with Harvey O. Brooks and Gladys DuBois, and "That's My Home," co-written with Leon René and Otis René, famously performed by Louis Armstrong. Ellison was also involved in the recording industry, becoming the general manager for Exclusive Records in 1945 before founding the Hollywood International label in Los Angeles in 1946. He passed away on February 1, 1984, in Los Angeles, California.
