Anselmo Sacasas
Anselmo Sacasas (23 November 1912 – 22 January 1998) was a prominent Cuban jazz pianist, bandleader, composer, and arranger. He began learning the piano at the age of six from a female cousin and graduated from the music conservatory in Manzanillo ten years later. Sacasas moved to Havana, where he composed piano pieces for silent films and developed an interest in the danzón style. In the early 1930s, he was part of Tata Pereira's orchestra.

In 1936, Sacasas met singer Miguelito Valdés, and together they worked in the Orquesta de los Hermanos Castro before founding the Orquesta Casino de la Playa. This band, known for its jazz arrangements, revolutionized the Cuban music scene, touring Central and South America and appearing in films in both Cuba and the United States.

Sacasas moved to New York in 1940, where he established his own orchestra in 1941 after some initial challenges. His orchestra performed at venues such as the Colony Club in Chicago and various cabarets in Manhattan, including La Conga Club and Havana Madrid.

In 1949, he relocated to Miami, becoming the musical director of the Sans Souci Hotel and Blue Sails Room. By 1954, he was the musical director at the Fountainbleu Hotel and Club La Ronde in Miami. In 1963, Sacasas took on the role of musical director at the El San Juan Hotel and the Tropicoro nightclub in San Juan, Puerto Rico, where he performed for thirteen years before retiring to Miami. Anselmo Sacasas passed away in 1998.

His discography includes recordings such as "In the Hall of the Mambo King" (2002) and "Sol Tropical '1945-1949'." His music, characterized by smooth and ebullient dance rhythms, remains a testament to his influence on the development of the mambo sound.
