Chico Bouchikhi
Chico Bouchikhi, born Jalloul Bouchikhi on October 13, 1954, in Arles, France, is a celebrated French musician and guitarist. He is best known as a co-founder of the internationally renowned band Gipsy Kings, which gained fame with hits like "Bamboléo" and "Volare." Bouchikhi's musical journey began with the formation of the Gipsy Kings in 1981, alongside the Reyes brothers and the Baliardo cousins. The group fused flamenco with rumba, pop, and Latin rhythms, achieving global success.

In 1991, Bouchikhi left the Gipsy Kings due to financial disagreements and founded his own band, Chico & the Gypsies, in 1992. This new venture allowed him to continue captivating audiences with his energetic performances and musical talent. Chico & the Gypsies released numerous albums, achieving significant success, particularly in France.

Bouchikhi's personal life is marked by a deep connection to his Moroccan heritage, as he was born to a Moroccan father and an Algerian mother. He was married to Marthe Reyes, daughter of José Reyes, a co-founder of the Gipsy Kings. A tragic event in his life was the assassination of his brother Ahmed by Mossad agents in the Lillehammer affair of 1973, a case of mistaken identity that profoundly affected him.

Despite personal losses, Bouchikhi has been a strong advocate for peace. He serves as a UNESCO special envoy for peace and has used his music as a tool for diplomacy, performing at significant events like the Oslo Accords. His commitment to reconciliation and cultural bridging through music has earned him respect and admiration worldwide.

Chico Bouchikhi remains a prominent figure in the music industry, known for his contributions to both the Gipsy Kings and Chico & the Gypsies, as well as his efforts to promote peace and unity through his art.
