Patrick Cockett
Patrick Cockett, born in 1947 on the Hawaiian island of Kauai, is a musician known for his contributions to Hawaiian music and his involvement in the band These Trails. Growing up in a musical Hawaiian family, Cockett was influenced by traditional Hawaiian music and artists like Chet Atkins, Gabby Pahinui, and Ray Kane. He began his musical journey with a guitar gifted by his brother and was inspired by performances such as Bo Diddley's at Kauai High School.
In the 1960s, Cockett attended college in Los Angeles, where he immersed himself in the vibrant music scene. He participated in a folk group during his senior year at Kamehameha School for Boys and later played in a Hawaiian trio in college. His collaboration with Margaret Morgan led to the formation of These Trails, a band that recorded its only album, "These Trails," in 1973. The album, recorded at Sinergia studio, featured contributions from various musicians and was noted for its unique blend of acoustic and electronic sounds.
Beyond These Trails, Patrick Cockett has been active as a solo artist and instrumentalist, performing with groups like Na Pali and Taj Mahal and the Hula Blues Band. His musical style encompasses jazz, Hawaiian, and Latin genres, and he is proficient in guitar and ukulele. Cockett has contributed to numerous albums over the decades, showcasing his versatility as a musician and composer.
