Patrick O'Malley
Patrick O'Malley, born in 1989, is an acclaimed American composer and conductor known for his work in orchestral, chamber, and media music. Growing up in Auburn, Indiana, O'Malley developed a fascination with music from an early age, inspired by local orchestras, his parents' record collection, and film scores. He began composing in middle school and pursued formal studies in composition at Northwestern University, where he balanced writing classical music and scoring student films.
O'Malley furthered his education at the University of Southern California, completing both his master's and doctoral degrees under the guidance of notable composers such as Andrew Norman and Frank Ticheli. His compositions, recognized for their emotional depth and imaginative qualities, have been performed by prestigious ensembles, including the Albany, Minnesota, Ft. Wayne, and New Jersey Symphonies, as well as at Carnegie Hall with the New York Youth Symphony.
His accolades include recognition by The American Prize, ASCAP's Morton Gould Award, and the Aaron Copland House Residency. In 2018, he was named Composer of the Year by the Sioux City Symphony. O'Malley has also contributed to the video game concert series Journey LIVE as an arranger and conductor.
Currently residing in Los Angeles and Lake Charlevoix, Michigan, O'Malley is preparing for the release of an album recorded with the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra. He teaches composition at California State University Northridge and continues to explore the interplay of emotion and imagination in his music.
