Wandy Tworek and his Orchestra
Wandy Tworek, born Władysław Tworek on June 25, 1913, in Copenhagen, was a distinguished Danish violinist of Polish and Ukrainian descent. Known for his virtuosity and engaging stage presence, Tworek began his musical journey in the vibrant world of café and Gypsy orchestras, where he developed a reputation as a 'Stehgeiger,' performing standing up while his fellow musicians sat. His early encounters with Børge Rosenbaum, later known as Victor Borge, infused his performances with a sense of humor and wit.

Tworek transitioned to classical music in 1944, debuting with Brahms' Violin Concerto. He became a prominent figure in Danish music, performing with the Danish Broadcasting Orchestra and recording significant works, including Wieniawski's Second Concerto and Bartók’s Sonata for Solo Violin. His collaborations with pianist Esther Vagning and other musicians produced memorable recordings of works by composers like Riisager and Franck.

Throughout his career, Tworek toured extensively, performing in countries such as England, Norway, Sweden, France, the USA, and Greenland. He was also a prolific recording artist, capturing both classical and popular repertoire on numerous records during the 1940s and 1950s. Tworek's contributions to music were recognized with awards such as the Peder Møller Prize in 1945.

Wandy Tworek passed away on November 22, 1990, in Sønder Stenderup near Kolding, Denmark, leaving behind a legacy as a celebrated violinist and entertainer. His recordings continue to be cherished for their warmth, technical skill, and the unique blend of classical and popular styles.
