David Coverdale
David Coverdale, born on September 22, 1951, in Saltburn-by-the-Sea, North Riding of Yorkshire, England, is a renowned English singer and songwriter. He is best known as the founder and lead singer of the hard rock band Whitesnake and for his tenure as the lead vocalist of Deep Purple from 1973 to 1976. Coverdale's powerful, blues-tinged voice has been a significant influence in rock music.
Coverdale began his musical journey in local bands such as Vintage 67, The Government, and Fabulosa Brothers before joining Deep Purple. His work with Deep Purple included the successful albums "Burn" and "Stormbringer." After Deep Purple disbanded, Coverdale embarked on a solo career, releasing albums like "Whitesnake" and "Northwinds."
In 1978, Coverdale founded Whitesnake, which achieved international success, particularly with the multi-platinum 1987 album featuring hits like "Here I Go Again" and "Is This Love." During Whitesnake's hiatus, he collaborated with Led Zeppelin guitarist Jimmy Page on the platinum-selling album "Coverdale–Page."
Coverdale's contributions to rock music were recognized in 2016 when he was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as a member of Deep Purple. Throughout his career, he has sold approximately 40 million records.
