Andy Latimer
Andrew Gordon Latimer, born on May 17, 1949, in Guildford, Surrey, England, is a renowned English musician and composer, best known as a founding member of the progressive rock band Camel. Latimer has been the only constant member of Camel since its formation in 1971, showcasing his talents as a guitarist, singer, flautist, and keyboardist.

Latimer's musical journey began in 1964, and he has remained active in the industry ever since. He co-founded Camel, which gained significant success in the 1970s with albums like "The Snow Goose" and "Moonmadness." Despite changes in the music industry and the rise of new genres, Latimer continued to produce music and tour, maintaining a dedicated fanbase.

In the early 1990s, Latimer and his partner Susan Hoover moved to the United States, where they established Camel Productions to independently release new music. Notable albums during this period include "Dust and Dreams" (1991) and "Harbour of Tears" (1996).

Latimer faced significant health challenges when he was diagnosed with polycythaemia vera, which progressed to myelofibrosis. He underwent a successful bone marrow transplant in 2007 and made a remarkable recovery, returning to music and touring.

In 2013, Latimer brought Camel back to the stage, performing "The Snow Goose" in its entirety. Despite arthritis, he continued to tour, including a notable performance at the Royal Albert Hall in 2018.

Latimer's influence extends beyond his own music, inspiring guitarists like Steve Rothery and Mikael Åkerfeldt. His contributions to progressive rock were recognized with a Lifetime Achievement award at the 2014 Progressive Music Awards.

Andrew Latimer remains a pivotal figure in progressive rock, celebrated for his melodic guitar playing and enduring dedication to his craft.
