Jerry Bock
Jerry Bock was an American musical theater composer born as Jerrold Lewis Bock on November 23, 1928, in New Haven, Connecticut. Raised in Flushing, Queens, New York, he pursued his education at the University of Wisconsin–Madison, where he wrote the musical "Big As Life." His early career involved writing for television revues and contributing songs to Broadway, debuting in 1955 with "Catch a Star."

Bock is best known for his collaboration with lyricist Sheldon Harnick, which resulted in successful musicals like "Fiorello!" (1959), "She Loves Me" (1963), and "Fiddler on the Roof" (1964). "Fiorello!" won the Tony Award for Best Musical and the Pulitzer Prize for Drama. "Fiddler on the Roof" earned him a Tony Award for Best Composer and Lyricist.

His other notable works include "Tenderloin" (1960), "The Apple Tree" (1966), and "The Rothschilds" (1970). Bock's contributions to musical theater were recognized with the establishment of the Jerry Bock Award for Excellence in Musical Theater in 1997.

Jerry Bock passed away from heart failure on November 3, 2010, in Mount Kisco, New York, shortly before his 82nd birthday.
