Stanley Damerell
Stanley J. Damerell, born John Edward Stanley Stevens on July 1, 1878, in Fulham, London, was a notable British vaudevillian actor, writer, and producer in the early 20th century. Transitioning from the stage to music, Damerell became a prolific lyricist and composer of popular songs from the 1920s until his death in 1951. He collaborated with Cecil Rutland on vaudevillian revues and co-founded the Cecil Lennox Music Company with composer Tolchard Evans and lyricist Robert Joseph Hargreaves. Damerell often used pseudonyms such as Erell Reaves and Robert Stanley. He was affiliated with several entertainment organizations, including serving as King Rat of the Grand Order of Water Rats in 1937. Damerell married twice, first to actress Violet Eva Walter and later to Irene Victoria Burningham. He passed away on December 12, 1951, in Teddington, England. His notable songs include "Sing, Sing, Sing" and "The Unknown Warrior."
