Jose Galhardo
José Maria Galhardo, born on June 10, 1905, in Lisbon, Portugal, was a distinguished Portuguese lawyer, screenwriter, and lyricist. He made significant contributions to Portuguese music and cinema, particularly known for his work as a lyricist for numerous songs and fados. Among his celebrated works are "Fado Malhoa" and "Lisboa Não Sejas Francesa," which were popularized by the renowned fado singer Amália Rodrigues.

Galhardo also wrote dialogues and lyrics for several films, including "A Canção de Lisboa" (1933), "Maria Papoila" (1937), "Fado, História de uma Cantadeira" (1947), "Capas Negras" (1947), and "O Tarzan do Quinto Esquerdo" (1958). One of his most internationally recognized songs, with music by Raul Ferrão, is "Coimbra é uma lição de amor," also known as "Coimbra" or "Avril au Portugal," which was featured in the film "Capas Negras" and performed by Alberto Ribeiro.

Throughout his career, Galhardo received several accolades, including the "Prémio Filipe Duarte" (1945/1946) awarded by SNI for the operetta number "Menina Lisboa," and the "Prémio Alfredo Carvalho" (1946/1947) for the revue piece "Se Aquilo que a Gente Sente." In recognition of his contributions, he was made a Commander of the Order of Saint James of the Sword on January 29, 1947.

José Maria Galhardo passed away on October 17, 1967, in Lisbon, leaving behind a legacy of influential work in Portuguese music and film.
