Amadeu Do Vale
Amadeu do Vale, born Amadeu Augusto dos Santos on March 6, 1898, in Fonte Santa, Caparica, Portugal, was a prominent Portuguese lyricist. He passed away on February 19, 1963, in Lisbon. Throughout his career, Amadeu do Vale made significant contributions to Portuguese music, particularly in the genre of Fado. He is best known for co-writing the lyrics to the popular song "Lisboa Antiga" (Old Lisbon) alongside José Galhardo, with music by Raul Portela. This song, originally written in 1937, gained international fame when it was recorded as "Lisbon Antigua" by the Nelson Riddle orchestra in 1956, topping the Billboard chart in the United States. Amadeu do Vale's work was also recorded by notable artists such as Hermínia Silva and Amália Rodrigues. His discography includes contributions to various recordings between 1936 and 1952, where he served as a lyricist and author.
