Lightnin’ Hopkins
Lightnin' Hopkins, born Samuel John Hopkins on March 15, 1911, in Centerville, Texas, was a renowned blues singer and guitarist. He is celebrated as one of the last great country bluesmen, bridging the gap between rural and urban blues styles. After the death of his father in 1915, Hopkins and his family, including his mother and five siblings, moved to Leona. At the young age of eight, he crafted his first instrument, a cigar-box guitar with chicken-wire strings, and by ten, he was playing music with Blind Lemon Jefferson. Hopkins's influential career produced popular songs such as "Baby Please Don’t Go," "Woke Up This Morning," and "Mojo Hand." His notable albums include "Lightnin’ Strikes" (1966) and "Lightnin’!" (1969). Lightnin' Hopkins passed away on January 30, 1982, leaving a lasting legacy in the world of blues music.
