Geoff Stephens
Geoffrey Stephens, born on 1 October 1934 in New Southgate, North London, England, and passed away on 24 December 2020 in Bedfordshire, England, was a renowned English songwriter and record producer. Active primarily during the 1960s and 1970s, Stephens was a prolific figure in the UK pop music scene. He collaborated with several notable British songwriters such as Tony Macaulay, John Carter, and Les Reed, among others, to create a series of hit records.

Stephens founded The New Vaudeville Band, whose song "Winchester Cathedral" earned him the 1967 Grammy Award for Best Contemporary (R&R) Recording. His early life was influenced by exposure to jazz and American pop music, despite having no formal music training. He began his career in amateur theatricals and eventually had his first song published in 1961. Throughout his career, Stephens contributed to numerous hits, including "Tell Me When" for The Applejacks and "The Crying Game" for Dave Berry. He also played a significant role in the early career of Donovan, producing his first hit single and debut album.
